Week of September 7-10, 2010

Bible –We will finish our study of Creation with Adam and Eve and sin entering the world.  Then we will learn about Noah and the Ark.

Memory verse – We will begin learning a verse to go with each letter of the alphabet.                           A: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  B: Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.                                                                                                                                                 We practice our verses several times a day.  Practice these at home, too.

Math – We will determine if objects are alike or different, and we will have a test on classifying and sorting objects.

Reading – We are reading more ABC books.  One the class really enjoyed was My First Book of Animals From A to Z.

Phonics – the sounds of all the letters, short vowels i, u, e, a, and o

Language –We read the Big Book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!  Each month during the year, we will use “Words of the Month” to write class stories.  Next week we will use our September words to write a story.

Handwriting – We are continuing to learn the basic strokes for writing letters and practicing our names using a capital letter for the first letter and the other letters using lower case.

Field Trip with the Early Kindergarten Class:  On Monday, September 13 we will have our first field trip to ISU Horticulture Research Farm east of Gilbert to see the apple orchard and how they sort the apples.  We will load up at 9:40 and be back at school about 11:15.

Thursdays will be our Library Day when we go to the school library.  There are so many good books, and the students were excited to go this past Thursday.  They may check out two books or one book and one video for one week.  The books can be returned early or can be sent to school on Thursday.  They will be able to check out more items when last week’s are returned.  If they forget, they always get to look at books while we are there.

Scholastic book orders are in the students’ take-home folders.  You may order online using the web address: scholastic.com/bookclubs and the class activation code: GMP97. The due date is September 10.

At dismissal please have your name cards in your window so we can tell which child to dismiss.  If you would like to come in to speak to someone, please park on the west side of the building and the driveway will be free for others to just pick up their children.  Thanks.

The Butter Braid fundraiser continues.

School pictures are Wednesday, September 15.

Family Fun Night is Friday, September 24.  Invite friends who might be interested in our school.   It is always an awesome night of FUN, FOOD, AND FELLOWSHIP.

Thanks for sending in your box tops and labels.  Keep them coming!  We hope you can use the coupons that were in the Friday folders.  All year we save Box Tops for Education and Campbell Soup labels for the school.  We have special boxes in the room to keep them.  Send them in whenever you get a bagful.  Also save Land O Lakes one gallon caps.  Our class saves pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House, and we have a special house we like to fill.  Grandparents or friends can save any of these items, too.
