Stuffed Animals Sent to India
Ames Christian School Students Send Christmas Blessings to Children in India
During November and December of 2009, the Ames Christian School office was unusually stuffed with clutter. Don’t worry, the staff is still as organized as ever. The overflow in the office was due to the generous donations of stuffed animals. Students stuffed the office full of the cuddly toys. The goal? - to bring smiles and comfort to children on the opposite side of the world.
Ames Christian School Physical Education teacher, Laurie Jensen, along with her husband Alan, are involved in a ministry that provides pastoral training as well as physical and financial support to a small mission in northeast India called The Claypot Brothers. Through this ministry, Indigenous pastors are trained locally and equipped with the skills they need to care for their churches of mostly tribal people. The Brothers also care for orphaned children who are brought to their churches. They bring the children into their Christian boarding schools and into their very homes.
Ames Christian School has been an extension of this ministry for the past couple of years. They have hosted one of the leaders as a chapel speaker and have sent used clothes to the children. The school also sent donations of physical education equipment, which the Jensens delivered on their most recent trip to India a year ago. Laurie Jensen also did Physical Education with the children while she was there.
This year, the ACS family collected new and gently used stuffed animals to send as Christmas gifts for the 35 Indian children and also to 50 children who live in an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal. Over 200 stuffed animals were collected and sent to brighten the Christmas of children in both countries. Ames Christian will continue to support the ministry, and the students will continue to pray for the ministry’s many children.
